Rules and safety
Because Pinealon comes from a Russian research programme and is traded internationally online, its status depends a lot on where you are and on what exactly is being sold. Here is the general picture.
Status by region
- European Union and United Kingdom: Pinealon is not an authorised medicine, and we found no authorisation as a food ingredient. Research-grade material is sold as a chemical for laboratory work.
- United States: the FDA has not approved Pinealon for any use, and it does not appear on the lists of substances that pharmacies may use for compounding.
- Russia: products sold under the name Pinealon are registered there as dietary supplements. That registration is a notification system for foods; it does not test whether a product works the way a medicine approval would.
Clinical trials
When we searched ClinicalTrials.gov, the international registry of human studies, it listed no trial of Pinealon. That is an important gap: regulators normally require several phases of controlled trials before any substance is accepted as a medicine.
Sport
Pinealon is not named on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List. The list does, however, contain a catch-all section for substances that have no approval for human therapeutic use. Athletes should ask their national anti-doping organisation before using any such product.
What we know about safety
Very little. Animal and cell studies did not focus on harm, and there are no published long-term safety studies in people. The fact that Pinealon is made of ordinary amino acids does not, by itself, show that it is harmless, especially in a form or purity that has never been tested.
Specific concerns
- Unknown purity: research-grade peptides are not made to medicine standards and may contain leftovers from synthesis.
- Mix-ups: online products may contain the wrong sequence, the wrong amount or something else altogether.
- Claims ahead of evidence: marketing often presents early rodent findings as if they were proven effects in people.
- No data for vulnerable groups: nothing is known about pregnancy, children, older people with several conditions or interactions with medicines.
Summary
Pinealon sits in a grey area: a research peptide with no medicine approval in the West and a supplement registration in Russia. Anyone thinking about it for health reasons should speak with a doctor first.
